Blue Poppies at Longwood Gardens

Posted: March 22, 2017 in Uncategorized
I was heading to Old Car City in Georgia from a weekend workshop in New Jersey, and had an extra day in my schedule where I could swing by Longwood Gardens and do some shooting.
Longwood is located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and is one of the best indoor gardens in the whole country,  and I believe they claim they have over 20,000 plants.
I was fortunate to be there when they have the very special “Blue Poppy” flowers planted.
They were a little past their prime, so I wasn’t really seeing anything that I got excited about, but I got a couple of average images.
One thing I did learn is don’t get their early in the morning to shoot them.  There are two sections of flower and each sections is maybe 15 feet long, and both sections were mobbed by photographers, making it very tough to get in to shoot.
I didn’t bother at that time and went on shooting other subjects.  I came back through the area at about 1pm, and there was no one there shooting them,  so I got a chance to shoot a couple shots.
Only problem at that time of day, is that you can’t use a tripod after 12pm.  I had to hand hold my shots, so not as easy for me to do without my tripod.  Here are the two images I shot.  I will post some more images from my day at Longwood over the next couple days.
