Post Processing With Nik and Topaz

Posted: October 3, 2015 in Uncategorized

My blog post yesterday was about post processing and the different editing software programs that we have available. I took and image of just a simple green plant (Mayapple) and wanted to show just four examples of some unique looks that can be done with post processing.
These were all done with just a simple click on a preset filter in either Nik Software or Topaz.
Here is the original image out of the camera. A traditional looking photograph of a simple subject.

This first processed image was done in Nik Software’s Color Efex Pro 4. I just clicked on one of the preset options in the “Solarization” filter, which transformed it into a totally different look and feel.

Second option again using Nik Software’s Color Efex Pro 4 was to add lots of details and give it that HDR look by using the “Detail Extractor” filter. Again just one click on a preset filter and I got this.

This time I took the original image into Topaz to show a couple more options. I decided to try a painted look, so click on the Oil Painting filter in Topaz’s Simplify 4 program.

Now let’s try another program of Topaz, the brand new “ReStyle“. I clicked on the “Architecture” option, and then clicked on the “Shaded Saturation” filter, and along with a few adjustments in the colors and saturation I ended up with this.

After clicking on the presets I get a good starting point for which I can tweak and improve on if I want, but as you see they look pretty good right from the start of each preset.
Which one do I like best? I like them all, they all have a unique quality.
Now I’ve just shown you four totally different images, and between these three programs from Nik and Topaz, you literately have thousands of options with all the presets, and you can combine presets together in any amount you desire.
We have these fantastic tools for us to take our photos to new artistic levels.
We have the ability to create our own unique art work from a simple subject like this plant.
Stop spending money on more cameras and lens, invest in software if you want to really make a difference in your images.
